There's a lot to love about the 3GS, but battery life isn't one of them. It's not horrendous, but it isn't that good, and if you're a heavy user of data and/or games you'll have to charge before the day is over, as I do on many days. I have a charger at work and that solves the issue there. For trips I've got an external battery in a case. It works quite well, though it makes it a bit bulkier, heavier and uglier. So... the much better battery life (apparently) of the upcoming iPhone will be a big improvement. It's also worth noting that if you are a driver (I mean, you commute by car), then you likely have your iphone plugged into your car on the commute in order to play music, use GPS and such, and that means you end up with much longer battery life as well as it stays full charged there. I ride the train and bus to work, though, so battery life is a bit of an issue. It's certainly workable, but I do wish it were better.

SteveJ

Comments on

@cdf74dc9 Is there a way to get a SERO plan with an employee discount?

mgene63

Comments on

@Faxmonkey, the iphone battery actually isn't that big... the 3GS has something like a 1200mah battery, with the new iphone (according to the gizmodo teardown) having a 1400mah battery.

I do agree with you that they could make the devices a little bigger and get a bigger battery in there. I went to a concert and recorded about 20 minutes of video, took about 150 pictures, uploaded about 20 of them to Flickr (full res, about 2M per pic) sync'd the rest with Picasa and used the Navigation (with GPS) to get to the after party. Another 100 or so pics and about 10 min of more video, plus a few youtube videos and extensive pic viewing with brightness at max (plus friends playing with my phone at the bar all night!) and I still got home with the battery just hitting Yellow (which I believe means 30% is left).
(Plus some calls, texts, and what not)

All in all about 8ish hours of pretty heavy almost continual usage.
