Everything they showed off was known. Their one more thing was the front camera app, which isn't really a one more thing...because they had shown use the camera in the beginning.

I'm still waiting for Engadget to interrupt Apple's news run with some crappy Android phone covers the way the did Android's I/O news run with some crappy iPhone phone covers. Engadget?? Wouldn't it be fun??

Gotta say, that new iPhone is pure hottness--but I'd be stuck in a closed platform without the cloud.

Then again, even with all the options of Android, all the nice phones, the cloud, the open-source-upgrade-my-phone-for-free-every-few-months pace of Android doesn't tend to come with pure polished goodness of the iPhone.

Hard to pick. As an other commenter just pointed out (and you question yourself) that FCC report is doubtful. The iPhone 4 is a quad-band 3G device.

So it has two extra than the 3G, 3GS. AT&T uses 850 (V) 1900 (II) and 2100 (1) which is why apple only has to make one phone for the world (all the international carriers beside NA that is Europe, Asia uses 2100 for their 3G. The extra 2 bands for UMTS (3G); 900 (VIII) includes pockets in Asia Oceania so New Z can use the same phone. 800 (VI) is used by NTT Docomo only in Japan. Since Apple signed with Softbank (which uses 2100) in Japan it's curious that they did that in respone to the editor's question. Since NTT Docomo is Softbank's comepetitor it would be as if apple added AWS (IV) which supports Canadian carrier (a valid reason to include it) but T-Mobile uses it. AND I THINK THAT'S WHY. Several Candian carriers can sign agreements with Apple but I think it is a population (the population in Canadia is like the population of NYC). It's as if AT&T is concerned enough with T-Mobile (even as the 4th largest carrier) that they can influence Apple not to add that band (again, even though it could sign with the Candian companies (WIND). But yet adding the extra band for NTT suggest to me that Apple would love to make ony ONE phone for every GSM based UMTS 3G carrier in the world. My take on the Japanese carriers is that their tight control of what phone can be connected to their network that nobody would JB and unlock the phone from Softbank (which has the exclusive obviously) to use it on NTT (it's the Japanese culture I suspect) but here hell yaa, I would definitely JB and unlock the AT&T tight grip and use it on T-Mobile's bomb 3G network. That's why I think AWS band (IV) was definitely deliberately left out by Apple with AT&T being the stakeholder (Apple would have loved to include the AWS (IV) band).
