As to usage or practicality, beach and pool reading is a pretty popular activity, so popular in fact that there is a description for these books, "beach reads". So, if you start from the assumption that there are people out there wanting to read by, and maybe even while soaking IN a pool, hot tub, lake, ocean, or other body of water, then a waterproof case is pretty handy for an ebook reader. Just look at the plethora of manufacturers making waterproof cases for cameras, ipods, cell phones, and other electronics devices.
