Instead of carrying a Tablet/notebook that is setup for YOU, and fully loaded with all of your data and personal information, Chrome OS fundamentally doesn't know who the owner is until you log in. After login it gives you access to all of your data via the web. This was Google's goal from the start: fast, cheap, disposable systems. If it gets lost or stolen, you lose nothing but the hardware. This is going to be perfect for travelers, web workers, and most importantly Enterprise employees.

Yes, we know this isn't for everyone. Yes, we know the technology isn't quite there yet to give a great experience with access to everything. But it's coming, I assure you. All the stuff you've been hearing about like Chrome Remote Login, Chrome being able to execute different languages, the App Store, native flash, cloud printing, Google's web service improvements, Google's acquisitions (like Picnik), the Google Apps Marketplace and everything else. This will all come together to offer an insane, yet super secure experience.

Almost everything is run through the browser these days and when technology like OnLive, OTOY, LogMeIn, Steam and all that other stuff gets further developed, many of us won't even need high powered desktops.

This is why I can't wait to see how OnLive does this Thursday. If we can play games in HD over the web, we'll be able to do anything. Stuff like Photoshop, Maya, and Blender will be no problems at all. If I can access high end software and games through the web and pay a monthly fee, I would never have to buy Windows or any software ever again.

At the very least, a Chrome OS tablet/notebook will be one hell of a compelling product for Enterprise use.

Jason Barone

Comments on Chrome OS build internals confirm Acer, Dell, and HP hardware coming?

@jasonbarone ding ding ding ding.
