Sony Ericsson 'Shakira' to be called the Xperia X8?
We hesitate to call these legit press shots -- as we've said before, Sony Ericsson fans are world-renowned for their capacity for high-quality fakery -- but German site mobiFlip.de has posted a bunch of renders of the so-called Shakira that look very possibly real to us. They're also saying that the phone will be dubbed the Xperia X8 at retail, a name that probably makes sense considering that the 3-inch Android phone is clearly designed to slot in below the high-end X10. Beyond that, we still don't have much to go on -- pricing, availability, target markets, and so on -- so we'll just hang out here on the edge of our seats for a while longer, or until we're distracted once again by the X10 mini pro's mind-numbing cuteness.

Yeah, I'd be caught dead with a white phone code named Shikira.
@GeneralThade
I'd get it. I bet it can get you a bunch of latin chicks, and they're known for having big knockers.
@jroff
But Shakira's "breasts are small and humble".
@jroff
So you don't confuse them with mountains.
@Gregorian I hope this phone's "specs don't lie" haha
X10 was OK, i hope this thing is better than X10
pics don't lie
@statickeith
It's not gonna be better than the X10. X8 is gonna be a bit lower... which should be obvious from their model numbers.
@Peytral "SHAKIRA SHAKIRA" oh baby when you talk like thattt you make a woman go mad!
Does this phone come with hips that don't lie? If not, can I buy them separately?
@Level 5
WIN!
@Level 5
Oh Sony when you talk like that, you make a cell phone go mad.
Looks like direct competition to the HTC Legend. If it's around 300-400 I'm buying.
@JW
It make a man wanna speak Spanish. Como te llamas? Si! Bonita! Mi bolsillo!
Default ringtone: "Waka Waka"
I'd be fine with the original name
Dude, Chris...
Those are rendered shots that a company does for PR use before the actual product is completed. EVERY COMPANY does this. When teh real phone gets photographed, those are called "live pics".
Haven't you figured this out by now?
As for fan art, this has way too much attention to detail to be one. Like the AO passes, for instance. May not be apparent to the layman, but to a trained eye, it is. Also, the real deal was leaked a while ago.
Wait, it wasn't going to be called "Xperia X8 Duke Nukem Forever 2 Edition"?
@pika2000 You've been making that joke for ever now. Stop. it's not remotely as funny as you think it is.
Blame your network operators for having frequencies that no one else in the world uses. We have had the X10 in the showrooms for months now.
@Herr Synnberg
Who cares about the operators? SE had been selling their X1, X2, Satio, and Aino unlocked. Yet where's the X10? The blame should be on SE themselves as nobody is stopping them to make a quad-band/penta-band HSDPA phone and just sell them unlocked.
@pika2000 Again, unlocked phones sell in tiny amounts in the US. Not their first priority. There are several markets around the world that have provided better reception for this phone than the US market would ever give and the company is rightfully spending their time and resources there.
Stop acting like the US of A is the center of the world. It really isn't.
@Herr Synnberg
Huh? Who's suggesting that USA is the center of the world, other than you? Stop acting like SE is a startup, like they have to cherry-pick certain markets. SE is a big company, and not being able to ship their flagship phones into all major countries is pathetic. Heck, even Nokia released their phones in the US.
@pika2000 The problem is not SE. The problem is AT&T will not pick up anything nice as long as it has exclusivity on the iPhone. The other problem is most Americans are not willing to pay unlocked phone prices. I wanted an X10 and had no problem finding an unlocked Rogers Wireless unit on ebay. Now they are available on other web sites like http://negrielectronics.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10a-850-1900-3g-android-black-unlocked-p-3030.html . It has couple of preloaded uninstallable Rogers applications but works fine on AT&T's network and seems to have very good 3G performance. Sometimes you have to pay to play.
Is Shakira free with the purchase of this product? If so, fuh-get iPhone 4, EVO 4G, or N8. I'm going for this baby!!!!
She wolf edition i want...
Next thing you'll tell me is that there's a phone called Kanye West. And that's something I don't want to see...
@MegaJapan
Your call gets disconnected every so often when it decides one of your previous conversations was better.
@MegaJapan lol okay, here is your justin bieber edition instead ;)
Sony naming schemes are nearly as painful as Nokia's and my new least favorite :MyTouch etc.(thank you for that arrow through me ears T-mobile).
I think I saw an ad for this in the Shanghai subway today. Not sure if it was this but I think it was x8 followed by another character. It was definitely sony and it looked like a x10 so I was a bit confused. I don't really follow sony handsets so I have no idea if sony already released a product like this in China or what.
Not even bothering to get mildly interested in any Sony announcements anymore. I wanted the Aino, then I wanted the X10. In each case the phone never showed. I get not finding them offered by AT&T, but there's a big, shiny Sony Experience store in a local mall and no one there ever had any information on either of those two devices. I visited and called repeatedly and .....nuthin. I moved on.
@RicKaysen
Sony Ericsson is not Sony. They are a separate company jointly owned by Ericsson and Sony.
@putte ..... understood, but they told me they were going to carry the line.....just didn't have any information on release dates.
