When it was WebTV, you could have the TV in a window while you surf the web, when MS aquired it they removed that feature which made it a WebTV There where no apps but this was the nineties. I think the basic concept is the same where they ficused on running the apps in the web. I am assuming that the Google TV uses an IR blaster to change channels and start recording so no heavy duty integration here.

Derick

Comments on

This looks awesome for us Dish subscribers, it will make the greatest DVR even better.

SKI

Comments on

I really dont see this competing with the likes of Xbox 360 used as a multimedia hub. Web pages on the TV with a remote is NOT the best way to go about this, and without killer features like being a HD AAA gaming console as well, why would I want to use it? Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender already gives me that and more... when you add in all the native things 360 can and will do in the near future (Netflix, local radio, AAA gaming, 5.1 SS, ESPN3, Bing, Zune music and movies/TV, voice/facial/motion activated controls with Kinect, PC Streaming etc), Google TV is not needed. You can now get a 360 for $149... why pay the same or more for a set top box that uses IR blasters and doesn't have everything needed for a great entertainment experience in the living room.

timotim
