We have a mobile payment system for public transport in my city (Ljubljana in Slovenia) and it works with all phones without NFC.

I'm not sure about the exact technical details, but it involves calling a number and touching the validator with your phone.

I.e the people I know who has Iphones are my 12 year old niece, my mother and a couple of girls :D I think apple fans are more interrested in looking cool than actually having a god phone. Not quite. Do you have or have you ever seen those credit cards that have RFID tags in them, and you can just touch them to a reader to "swipe" the card? That's NFC.

American Express has it on their "Blue" card (I think that's what it's called... the clear one with the blue square in the middle), Visa has PayWave, and MasterCard has PayPass.
