No mention of the automatic 10/10 scores given to products that originate from Cupertino? I would think Engadget should disclose that in this write-up. If everyone already knows upfront that Engadget will give perfect scores to Apple products (past, present and future) it will probably reduce the whining later.

From a conclusive stand point, I guess it will be great for those who want to know the opinion of engadget more clearly. But lessens the ability for readers to make their own conclusion because yours is even so much more on the forefront.

Anandtech used to have a rating system like this years back but got rid of it in favor of what engadget used to previously. I didnt like it at first but now I realize that I like to make my own conclusions from the information that you guys gather.

Granted yes the Droid X may merit higher than 7/10, but did you read the post? You should consider putting the full retail price on there as well. So that the readers have a reference of the real value of the phone (or what the manufacturer thinks it is). The review doesn't matches with the Score Card. The HTC ARIA and HD Mini got a 7/10. Does the score mean they are about the same qaulity as the Droid X ? This doesnt seem fair.

It was the first phone to be able to go head to head with the iPhone. But really it was a developers playtoy more so.

Scoring can be very arbitrary as well. For example with the Droid X, does the phone get credit for having Google Turn by Turn Navigation as a feature? That's a huge feature that can not be understated. One that brings a better experience than stand alone GPS units that cost $500 or more. Shouldn't users now about such a huge feature...yet it's not mentioned at all in the Droid X review. Google maps has received several signicficant updates over the past 6 months and yet Engadget fails to mention this feature at all in the review.

These scores will be very bad and are totally unnecessary. Especially when a company like Apple prides itself on setting the talking points for features that it thinks can give it an edge over competitors. For example, the new screen. Only now are reviewers comparing screens to the iPhone as the "gold standard". Where the hell where you people when all the Android phones were coming out with displays that you could not see the pixels and great resolutions??? There wasn't a great debate when the Droid and Nexus One came out with higher resolutions and never set a new standard.

No1 really remembers that the Nexus One was way ahead of the game when it first came out. and i mean WAY ahead. But for some reason, it didn't get a score like that.

The past reviews seem to not really be on the same reviewing bar as current. Nexus One was revolutionary in January, but now its just bleh. Droid X gets a 7/10 because it has a UI not to their taste (which is changeable) and Android 2.1 at launch with an upgrade coming later

iPhone gets a 9/10 because it has major antenna issues, proximity sensor issues, screen yellowing issues, and a refusal for a free case due to the antenna issue from Apple themselves, and a potential class action lawsuit at hand.

I would say that the 8/10 for both would have been more expectable. but Apple products seem to be getting a free pass for these issues.

But GOD FORBID Droid X Launches with 2.1 and wont see an upgrade for about a WHOLE MONTH or 2.
