It would not be very hard to program a "sleep" function into the OS when the device is not plugged into the outlet...every single phone on the planet has this functionality...it doesn't turn off _everything_...Why are you not banned from engadget yet? a battery would also be nice for power outages. my alarm clock saved me last year because it has a battery in it, the alarm went off and i wasnt late for work.
