Good observation. The original antenna would not function properly with diamonds covering it. They must have designed an alternative.

The permitivity of diamond is 5x that of air, meaning EM waves travel considereably slower through it. Bordering the antenna with diamonds thus has the effect of being electrically longer, thus, will function for a lower frequency than necessary.

Every provider in Canada is switching to the GSM side of things (hence why every network carrier has the iPhone).
