Although if I had waited a month I might have rather gotten the Nook with wifi, but to be honest the Pocket Reader does read a lot of formats and I don't really need wifi on a device that's for reading books. I bought a Sony Reader 505 about a year ago, and recently an iPad.  The iPad is excellent at everything but reading books.  Guess what the Reader is really good at?<br><br>Would I buy a Reader if I already owned an iPad?  Probably not, but I'll definitely use my Reader for content I can get it on it. And the speed of browsing is better on the iPad. The treacly page turns on the Sony made me frustrated. <br>And some of the stuff I wanted to read was screenplays and PDFs. They are readable on the iPad. Sometimes it was unresponsive and the glare from the touch screen made it unreadable while lying down. <br><br>Total waste. I returned it after just 2 weeks. Dust started to build up on the sides of the screen which was impossible to clean -- it was very annoying. <br><br>The only two dictionaries available on the daily edition had missing words. I hated the fact that I couldn't Wikipedia something or Google it. <br><br>Bottom line: get a tablet. It doesn't have to be the iPad; just wait for other options in the next couple of months. There will be more options before the holiday season. If you want a device just for reading black and white text (forget about reading pdfs with the Sony readers: they will take forever to load and scroll!), then the kindle or nook is a better alternative. <br><br>I honestly cannot believe Sony would release such a crappy product. The price was absurd (as expected) but I thought it would function well. Just try reading a book on you iPad or HP tablet outside in the daytime. You can't even see the screen. <br><br>And a couple hours of battery life? Some of us read for more than a couple hours at a time.<br><br>I suppose a pad would be OK if you don't read much, or don't consider taking a book with you when you go to the park. They cannot seriously expect to compete with a $149 WIFI capable Nook that definitely holds its own. Not to mention the Pocket edition is short on memory as well. <br><br>I suspect there could be more to it than this for Sony. They may be preparing something bigger and badder and have decided to make the playing field more even in the meantime. I would not be surprised to see a "Pearl" powered Sony Reader come out in the not so distant future. <br><br>Thanks for the post.
