Forget about other people, concentrate on yourself.

This is fact: for the vast majority of iPhone 4 users, myself included, making and receiving calls on the iPhone 4 is, not only without issues, but actually vastly improved from 3GS. When the death grip *does* become problematic is when you use it to do other things on it that involves using the cellular network. And you are right-handed. And the signal happens to be relatively low.

I'm not saying that's not a problem, because it IS; I know it first hand. But I also know first hand that it is not something you can't work around. And with all the information that one could ever hope to have to make a decision, I would *still* choose to have this iPhone 4 over anything else on the market. I don't dare suggest it's the correct choice for you or anyone else, but I know it is for me. I am an informed iPhone 4 user.

Now, looking back, can you honestly say that your friend there was able to really make an informed choice? Or, was she just persuaded to follow your advice mindlessly, much in the same way she would have mindlessly chosen the iPhone 4 were it not for you? (actually that wouldn't have been completely mindless if she already had a 3G--she at least knew what she would be getting).

rawhead

Comments on ComScore: Android grows US smartphone market share as all others decline

@Locust

I can read my (non super) AMOLED in the full Spanish summer sun, hardly any worse than a iP 3gs. For this margin of increase, every single person using an iPhone 1, 2, or 3G would have had to go out and buy an iPhone 4 AND STILL add 25% to the installed base. That would be impressive. Almost as impressive as Android scoring a cool 40% increase overall in a single quarter.

Just because Apple added more customers to their base doesn't mean that their market share increased. Because so many people are moving from dumbphones to smartphones, it is possible to post an increase in sales volume quarter over quarter but still suffer a market loss.

The iPhone is a cool piece of tech. The only people hating on the retina display are fooling themselves. No one on this site can in good conscience say that an increase in pixel density isn't awesome. That totally goes against what all nerds yearn for - the advancement of awesome tech.

Having said all this, phones such as the EVO and Droid X are superior to the iPhone in almost every way. Android is positively exploding and while using an iPhone is an aggravatingly static experience, using any number of new Android devices is dynamic and awesome. There's no end to the insanely cool customization.

You'd have to be an idiot to hate Apple. They keep pushing tech forward. The original iPhone revolutionized user interfaces, music synchronization, and the capacitive touchscreen.

You'd have to be even stupider to hate Google. They provide us countless free services - Android being my favorite (tied with Google search, but that goes without saying).

But I think most of us can get behind this next statement:

Screw you, Steve Jobs.

John Stathakis

Comments on ComScore: Android grows US smartphone market share as all others decline

@4u2nv WTF?
