So I guess this car is not ment for longer rides... but for the city, right? So why do you need speedy cars for that?

I imagine that as the technology is still very new the range will increase as the battery technology improves. I can't stand Renaults but I am very glad that they are making strides in the recharge time of the batteries. With each successive new Electric car there seems to be more problems being solved. In a few years we should get pretty good cars. Lets not forget that there is a version of the Porsche Cayenne which has pretty much a 100 mile range and that is petrol!

Electric cars are currently split between the performance niche and the short commute niche, it is inevitable that these will converge at some point to produce a car that suits the general population by having both a good top speed and a good range along with short recharge times.

The cost saving will be in Servicing costs (An electric motor should last longer with less servicing than a Complicated combustion engine and should be cheaper in general to fix. Also if you drive in stop start city traffic an electric vehicle will be far, far more efficient than a petrol engine. Petrol will get increasingly more expensive as it gets more difficult to extract while Electricity will probably stay roughly the same (or get cheaper once they get Fusion power on the go).
