If you could find a 5870 at $200 then of course it's gonna blow the pants off a GTX 460 but that's not the point. GTX 460 currently blows everything else at the $200 point out of the water. From the AMD camp that means the 5830 which your 5870 is clearly better than. What I meant to say is I have a 4870x2 and was looking to upgrade to a 5870, based on the comments of punters speaking positively about it in comparison to the 4870x2. However as Futuremark's league table shows the difference is extremely marginal at best, now I know Futuremark can only be counted as one barometer out of many and other official sources might say different but as a fairly reliable source it just shows how off whack the opinions of some bloggers are. In others words what I am trying to say is many seem to have a habit of highly over stating the improvement of successive cards over the previous generations and I fear that is what is happening again here. I mean is this GTX 460 really that much better than comparable cards available prior to its release? Personally I am very disappointed with what I see as rather slow progress in the GPU market of late. I mean if I really have to spend around £500 on a new card to significantly better what I bought two years ago, thats not really much progress is it?!

Tim

Comments on

Too late. :(
Just bought an HD 5870 for $295.

Einhanderkiller

Comments on

@einhanderkiller 30 day return policies are your friend!

Andrew Fong

Comments on

@einhanderkiller The GTX 460 is a competitor to the 5830 @ $200, a little bit better (loses out on some benchmarks) and has more features and the lowest temps and quietest fan in its class. If the numbers NVIDIA gave us were even close to reality, we felt that they had a real winner on their hands. To say that we were not disappointed is to massively understate our feelings on the GeForce GTX 460. This is a truly fabulous video card. Its performance either matches or outpaces the competition from AMD. It consumes relatively little power, especially under full load. Its fan keeps it cool and quiet. And frankly, it overclocks like no video card we’ve seen before.
