Both platforms pretty much cover all the bases that people will use from their day to day goings on. To me this is a meaningless figure I'm certainly not going to be using this many applications and the same most definetly applies to iOS. What it does mean however is an attraction to big players to turn their attention more to android.

Deny all they want but at androids rate, with this many handsets, the largest target audience across the largest amount of devices will be android. And when it comes to firms looking to spread their media then its going to become a big player in the proliferation of content. As much as the iphone is a good device it is severely and quite unreasonably controlled.

Whilst some may be want to deny app quality or anything of the likes my personal experience is in the browser. Javascript performance on iDevices is absolutely awful and I work a lot on web applications. And I'm sure a lot will agree that 'web apps' as they were will become more and more important for reaching mobile devices. For a platform that pursues an anti-flash rich media, you would at least expect js performance to be good and canvas to be exceptionally fast. Fact of the matter is the opposite is true whilst android's browser is brilliant and handles all forms of animation/interactions with ease -- not to mention flash support. And whilst I agree flash needs some down-toning on the net, the alternatives (being canvas) just are nowhere near proficient enough to take it out of the equation. Knowing that android can handle the widest variety of rich internet media, at the fastest quality is a huge enticement for me.

Adam

Comments on

@drkow19 It's pretty much the same in Apple's store.

Thousands of RSS readers with one burnt-in feed.
