And I'm looking forward to that synergetic future.

I have a problem with the phrase "over-reliant on technology", making it sound as if it's a bad thing, and bringing an example of not remembering phone numbers. Of course I don't remember phone numbers! Why should I? Do I input an IP address every time I refer to a website? Do we have police officers at every junction telling us which cars can go when? It's not about being babied, think about it like having an awesome assistant - it's not like my phone is forcing me to go and get a new bat, it's just suggesting. Sometimes relying on technology makes things better.

I kinda get the impression that Engadget is in constant anxiety from technology... Oh well, perhaps I am too naive. Still a great article though, better to immerse in imagination than dwell on rivalry, I say!

Ariel Horwitz

Comments on Google's Amit Singhal tells us about the dreams search engines are made of

Interesting article. Was a little surprised at the end to hear concern about becoming too dependent on our technology. As tempting as it is to succumb to nostalgia, I have to say that maintaining our independence from gadgets is a ship that has sailed. As strange as it may seem to those of us who still remember the days of bulky desktops and DOS, our children (in developed countries) will grow up in constant contact with smart phones and networks. Just as we are not just humans, but are humans+cars+phones+glasses+meds+... giving us abilities that our great-grandparents never dreamed possible, our children will be augmented by tech and able to accomplish tasks we can't imagine. Saying they should still try to interact with the world and value those things which used to be important (remembering phone numbers, obscure/inconsistent spelling, etc.) is a common sentiment among older generations, but has limited merit. I'm a little to surprised to see these arguments on a tech blog.

ehren

Comments on Google's Amit Singhal tells us about the dreams search engines are made of

@ehren I agree with what you say here.
