Apple is known to do that.  But so far, today, the screen has not turned on during any of my calls.  Usually 2 out of 3 calls had the screen turning on. It really doesn't make sense for Apple to have designed the sensor any other way, but I wouldn't put it past them!<br><br>Even if the sensor only sends an on-off state, an additional 0.5s - 1.5s (or user-defined) delay could be added before the phone reacts to the change in state. I was on a call Yesterday and I muted the phone a half a dozen times during the short call.  I even tried holding it away from my face and just next to the ear and yet it was still doing it.  It was driving me and the other caller nuts.  I didn't know what was going on at first until I moved the phone away from me and saw the mute button lit up. Almost every time my ear hits the screen the call gets  dropped.  Come on "Proximity Sensor" Update.  I  think Apple is on the ball with update fixes.  I just hope that "next month" a new hardware iphone 4 pops up in stores and leaves us all "holding the bag" sort of speaking.....<br>My nightmare still on buying the 3G and then 3GS appears a few months later...not cool Apple.     I will be really pissed if Apple pulls this again, unless Apple gives us a really good break on the new hardward.  Do what's right Apple.....  Give us all the updates and fix our problems. I like to talk and cook at the same time and very FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<br>I hope this fix doesn't take another 22 days.  Pull through for us Apple.  You have the manpower and money to work overtime. My initial perception is that it was fixed, but it was not. Today, Steve Jobs said that it would be fixed in the "next update". This would probably be something like 4.0.2 (because 4.0.1 was released yesterday).<br><br>I am certain this promised update will come before 4.1, because 4.1 includes new features and we need the bug-fixes today (err, TWO WEEKS AGO).]]></description><dc:creator><![CDATA[J. I'll wait for the promised "next update."<br><br>Even though I'm fully aware of the problem with the face sensor, I just can't use the phone the normal way without having trouble. There was a maddening 20 minutes spent on a recent lunch break where my brother and I (both iPhone 4 users) were hanging-up on each other back-and-forth while DISCUSSING the issue!<br><br>Combined with the insane Bluetooth problems, my phone is almost unusable. I'm using a "premium" Voyager Pro headset. Does this phone work well with the old discontinued Apple headset, I wonder?<br>]]></description><dc:creator><![CDATA[J. I went on to discover that my phone did indeed have the "death grip" issue. I decided to purchase a case and that particular issue was no longer one. Later on I then found out that I had a proximity sensor issue, as I was on the phone with someone, and suddenly I heard a dialing sound. Stunned, I looked at my phone only to find that it was calling my boss. Luckily I pushed end fast enough to cancel the call. <br><br>Yesterday I went to the Apple store (Houston, TX), and an employee exchanged my iPhone instantly without any questions for a new one. After using it for a few minutes, I discovered that the proximity sensor was still faulty. <br><br>The "death grip" can be solved by purchasing a case, fair enough. However, the proximity sensor is indeed a FAR GREATER issue at hand. I now have to decide whether to place my bets on Apple's next software update fixing the problem, or returning the phone.<br><br>Last thing I will say, I do love the phone, but the proximity sensor is a major shortcoming that could be a deal-breaker.]]></description><dc:creator><![CDATA[shokwave86]]></dc:creator><pubDate>Jul 17th 2010 7:58PM</pubDate></item></channel></rss>
