The search results themselves will be uncensored because they're hosted in Hong Kong, where the Chinese government let's the local government play by it's own rules. But the great firewall will still prevent you from actually clicking through because when you try it'll disconnect the session. And if a search result page returns particularly objectionable words the firewall is capable of preventing the actual search page from being seen.
So basically Google is hosted outside of China and is much like any site outside of China. Except all their other services remain and there's still a Google.cn domain that's a big link to Google hong kong. All in all it's just one big absurd thing but I guess somewhat more people will be reminded that they're looking at censored results, but everyone in China already knew that.

tekdemon

Comments on China happy with Google's latest tweaks, saga appears at an end

@Kaitou KID

Something simple is Google will not do anything really different to what it did when it left China.

If you want to blame Google on this issue, you should blame it several months ago. The point is google backed on what they said they wouyld do. Google said they would PULL OUT of China. They did not do that. They have left their staff there, and Google.CN is still up (albeit linking to Google.HK very crudely). The point is that the google.hk results are still being censored... by the Chinese government, so the Chinese government has even more control now over the censorship. The end result is pretty much the same.
