It's certainly doing very, very well in cinemas this time around - far better than it did on previous occasions (Jaws 3D being one notably awful example I remember from my younger years).  Any saying "it doesn't add anything" is incorrect too - if that were the case, why would people choose to see a more expensive 3D version of a film over the cheaper 2D version on display in the same cinema? Sony aren't even trying to innovate, they're still using active shutter whilst others look for answers to the glasses problem. Games are limited to 720p at a refresh rate of 30Hz. <br><br>I think Microsoft and Nintendo are being more realistic when it comes to 3D gaming. Microsoft is hardly pushing this Tech, they did a partnering with LG and released this statement:<br><br>3D games are available today on Xbox 360 and will continue to evolve. Today, you can buy a 3DTV and wear glasses to play games like Avatar and "Batman: Arkham Asylum." The promotional partnership with LG announced in South Korea today is specific to the South Korean market, but is further evidence that as 3D adoption grows, Xbox 360 will support 3D games and entertainment.  <br><br>Which basically means, if enough people buy 3DTVs, we will push 3D on the Xbox. To run in 3D the frame rates need to be better.  The developers wouldn't want to reduce the graphical quality of the games much so they will strive to improve frame rate in other ways.  Some of these frame rate improvements will be there for the non-3D versions of the game too.<br><br>This is probably more important for the next-gen of consoles that will be developed with 3D in mind. Audio was not a gimmick, it was an innovation that everyone wanted in earlier cinema and progressed to tv from there.<br>2. See (1.)<br>3. DVD was not a gimmick but a replacement for VHS in the same why CD was a replacement for audio cassettes.<br>4. BR is still a gimmick, not everyone wants or needs it and it has failed in every possible way to kill of it predecessor the DVD ... what are BR sales compared to DVD after what 5 years.  It may have killed of a rival but still does not anywhere match market penetration of DVD.<br>5. Front camera is again still a gimmick, compare carry calls voice versus video and you'll see.<br>6. 3D is a gimmick, at the moment, the tec is not right for home viewing, simple as. It is no gimmick, I have a 3D TV and have played the 4 or 5 PS3 demos/games in 3D (plus the Avatar Game which uses side by side and some other formats if your TV does not support that) that are available and they are no joke or gimmick.  Also I'm not sure what they're talking about with the slider in Sly Cooper, of course there will be a slider, there are sliders in all of the 3D Games for the PS3 already in the options that I know of. Mario galaxy's sidescrolling sections aren't very impressive becuase they are in essence 2.5D. The true impact comes when depth is heavily used.<br><br>I have a wii emulator installed on my computer and can play most wii titles in true field-sequential 120hz stereoscopic 3d using my HD66 projector and nvidia 3d vision.
