I'm not really convinced this is such a "shame," at least from Apple's view. In fact, I think they're happy there are more delays, because it only increases people's appetites, and increases the chance they'll buy a white one when it comes out, even though they have a black one now.

If they released them at the same time or close to each other, people would have waited. But I'd be willing to bet there are people who bought the black one now and will buy the white one when it comes out later.

Most likely this coincides with FOXCONN moving their factories.

One assembly plant is up and running to make the black ones, and with the demand that there is, there is no way Apple is going to switch up just to make a niche-color phone.

I have some family in China. The word there is that they are having trouble getting to optomal density of the white compound to put on the glass.

On a related note, they are saying that they have changed the density of paint they are using on the black models, and that has helped the antenna problems.
