The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness.
While we at WoW.com are hard at work puzzling out the latest round of changes from the Cataclysm beta, we've got something for you to puzzle over as well: a "Where in the World of Warcraft?" crossword puzzle from The Puzzle Hub. This one's themed around places throughout Azeroth, Outland and Northrend. If that mind-bender strikes your fancy, there's a "Who in the World of Warcraft?" version, too. Thanks for the tip, Benji -- these look they'll most assuredly help keep our minds off the agony of watching beta test class changes scritching and scratching back and forth.
Let's crack open The Classifieds ...
Random Acts of Uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Smashnheal, Grizzly Hills (US-A) I wanted to thank Smashnheal for a cross-faction act of kindness. I've been grinding towards Loremaster the past while and was stuck on all the phased 5-mans; I was able to solo most of them but sometimes at 5-6 attempts each. Smash was at a similar place in his chain, so despite not being able to communicate beyond emotes, we went through the Battle at Valhala chain together one step at a time, each encounter twice back-to-back, so that we could both finish the quests. I got my Icecrown: The Final Goal achievement, which left me with about 50 quests in Storm Peaks to reach Loremaster. Thanks again, Smashnheal! -- Vodkabull, Grizzly Hills (US-H)
Memoriah,<Dragons of Time>, Nagrand (US-H) Nearing the end of the Tier 0.5 q chain I hit a roadblock : a Flask of Supreme Power. None in the AH, the recipe wasn't dropping for me in Scholo, so a quick visit was needed to the realm forums to ask if anyone had the recipe or could make one. I was contacted by Memoriah with one for sale. I was ready to hand over some cash but when she learned I needed the flask for the q chain, she gave me the recipe for nothing!! There really are some nice people out there. :-) Thanks Memoriah, you saved me a living hell in Scholo!! Cheers -- Truesilver, Nagrand (US-H)
News: Around the WoW community
The well-dressed paladin If two puzzles aren't enough to keep you busy this week, maybe you need to enter Pugging Pally's Well-Dressed Paladin contest. Hey, you don't even have to be a paladin to enter! All you have to do is come up with a chic paladin outfit -- all the details are available on the contest post. Contest prizes include custom artwork of your character; as a Drama Mama who enjoys a Kelly Aarons avatar, I can personally vouch for the cool factor of having great art of your own dude. (Thanks for the tip, Kelsey.)
But wait! We've got yet one more opportunity for those of you who'd like some custom character art. WoW.com artist Zach Yonzon is also offering readers the shot at some custom character artwork. Send Zach a screenshot and some notes on your character; more details in the Character Sketch submissions callout.
Old-school world PvP event It's one last hurrah for pre-Cataclysm world PvP, as Soundwave of Runetotem (US) works to organize an organized world PvP event on as many realms as possible. Feel like mixing it up? Help organize your own realm as plans come together on the official forums.
Noobs4Hope Here's another worthy charitable cause run by gamers: Noobs4Hope, another WoW marathon event this year, this one slated for Aug. 6. WoW4CURE is a live broadcast internet event supporting CURE Childhood Cancer, an organization providing funding for cancer research as well as helping families of kids with cancer cover their costs. Five gamers will play nonstop for the weekend to raise donations for CURE Childhood Cancer. The event features contests, giveaways and ongoing chat with the players, so check it out to support some worthy WoW fun.
Networkez-vous Apparently, the time is ripe for social networking sites for gamers. This week offers up yet another new site, this one apparently aimed at French players: GameCreds.com, now entering open beta. The site will offer WoW character profiling, guild hosting, a news aggregator, HD video hosting and more. Allez-y!
