Your math is correct but your logic sucks

10 "friends that bought consoles" means one or more of the friends may have more than one console.
So if all 10 have a ps3 and 2 or 1 have an additional or two systems, point still stands that 10 bought consoles.

Now you would not be incorrect had he said what the total number of consoles bought was.
