I have an HP 2605dtn color laserjet printer (great printer!) for home printing needs... and I have used it since 2006. In that same time period, I have gone through at least 3-4 pda/tablet/phones.

Is HP continuing to try to sell "disposable" printers with "disposable" tablets? Or will they actually webconnect their decent, long-lived printers, and then guarentee a tablet form factor which will continue to be upgraded at that rapid pace that current smartphones/tablets are upgraded? Because I would hate for my printer to become obselete 12 months later because the current generation of tablets won't dock to them.

What happens if I am using the hp tablet for reading, and someone wants to print on the printer? Are they out of luck? Will the tablet become just another remote to play hide and seek with (yes, I have small children)?

Meh. The more I think about this, the less excited I am. Touchscreens and controllers aren't really expensive until you try to bundle them in a hand-held, potable, sleek form factor. I would rather not see detachable tablets on my printers.

I suspect that this is one way for HP to jump-start their tablet sales. Everyone buys HP printer every few years, which means HP tablet sales will be "booming"... whether or not anyone actually uses them to do anything but push "page eject".

tmarks11

Comments on HP CTO suggests webOS integration will run deep

They can keep talking about all the great products they could put webOS on, but until they actually release a product, i'm not holding breath for the software's future.

mttarpinian

Comments on HP CTO suggests webOS integration will run deep

Most of use a variant of a mobile OS everyday without knowing it.
