I dont think the idea can work. Are you telling me that in clamshell orientation the display will not be protected by a bezel on 2 sides? That would make the display extremely fragile. It is indeed awesome as a concept, in fact if you go check the link, it shows that the two pieces can detach also!

It is however, just a concept. As another poster stated, the screen would require a bezel at the fourth side too, which kinda rain down on the whole jointed-screen thing.

We have an Samsung Alias and two Alias II phones in our house atm and they use a simular design that opens as a flip phone vertically or as a full keyboard landscape mode depending on which way you flip the top section, but in one motion.

Surprisingly they are very durable and we have never had a problem with any of them so far, even with the 3year old Alias. So I don't think the design would be any weaker than any other phone out there. It only opens up vertically (clamshell-style); you can't open it horizontally at all (landscape mode). Presumably, when there's an incoming call, the act of flipping it open will automatically accept the call, just like most (all?) clamshells. The only way to access landscape mode on this device is to flip it open vertically, and then twist the upper half 180˚.]]>Aug 6th 2010 8:48AM
