Mercedes SLS AMG and Isle of Man take center stage in 'world's fastest 3D car film'
Frankly, you could've stopped at "Mercedes SLS AMG" and "Isle of Man," but toss in ex-Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, a litany of 3D cameras, helicopters and a closed section of the Mountain Road... and well, you've got magic in the making. The crew here set out to create the "world's fastest 3D film," and honestly, we aren't in any position to doubt 'em. We're also guessing that this 4 minute and 2 second masterpiece will be looped in Benz dealerships around the world, and for good reason. Word has it that the clip will be shown on Sky 3D across the pond, but there's no telling when it'll grace three-dee screens in North America and beyond. While we wait, feast your senses on the 2D version just beyond the break.

If I make the worlds slowest 3d video, will I be headlined on engadget too?
@soujisama I'd watch it in 2D anyways.
@soujisama : Engadget giveaway!
@soujisama If it involves a 183,000 supercar that has wings, yes.
@wookieecrisp 183,000 what? Raisins? Internets? Nilays? UNITS, UNITS, UNITS! Remember what your wise science teachers tell you!
@NikAmi I don't think that matters. 183,000 is plenty of anything.
@loocas
Hm, atoms?
@NikAmi
Dollars, or Quids, you donkey! And it doesn't matter about the currency, the point is that its bloody high a price!
And I figured that out all on my own too.
In 2D it looks more or less like a top gear episode, except this is a bit boring..
@Noggie
"I might need to go silent a bit to concentrate."
Yeah, you probably should.
@SolidSnake He was talking all casual, like he was driving 45 down the road. Then they show his speedometer and he's going 140...
Like it's no big deal.
@Noggie
Yeah, incredibly boring, especially given the kind of kit (and driver, and budget) they had to play with. Ever seen the famous Pikes Peak run? Would love to see that in HD:

@millertime021 140 kph that is.
@millertime021 I can understand. 130mph in my Challenger feels almost exactly like 70mph. It's disgustingly easy to let my foot sink in and before I realize it... 130.
@millertime021
140kph x .62 = 87mph. Not very fast for something that has 563 hp. I'm guessing the "worlds fastest" has nothing to do with the car.
@Tegeril
Watch the 2nd video guys. At about the 6:20 mark they mention that they are doing 140 MPH.
@shokher99 He's driving on curvy mountain road.
@shokher99 You would likely end up in a pile of rubble if you tried that on a road like that.
@Bahumbug
Yes I would.
Forget the 3d video, who cares. I want the car.
@boneytim Forget the car, who cares. I want the REDs!
@boneytim
It sounds awesome, i get weak at the knees when i hear it.
Not sure they really held that still frame long enough at the end of the movie!
They should have got the team from Top Gear to film it - it would have looked better.
As it is, it's like a bad Top Gear knock-off, without the production skills or artistry in the photography.
But I want to watch it in 3D! I have all the gear dammit!
@Apocrypha You mean the paper Anaglyph glasses that come with every other falvor of Kellog's?
@loocas I thought I was the only person who saved those glasses, now my plan is ruined!
I agree, the Top Gear team does some awesome cinematography. The into to the Camaro this season was awesome. As well as the 911 and R8 spyder one.
Agreed with the Top Gear comments. Still, pretty. But couldn't Coulthard have driven it harder? I don't think he pushed it. Unfortunately.
@kadajawi
He's running at between 100/150 MPH on little bumpy country roads pretty impressive having driven those roads myself.
@fourthletter
sure that wasn't kmh? He is driving on the wrong side of the car.
@csmitty
yea it is mph after looking again. Doesn't even have kph on the speedo
@csmitty No, it's not MPH at all. That car does not do 240MPH.
@Tegeril
It is an English reg. car, they use MPH, do a freeze frame on the speedo before you make a fool of yourself again?
@fourthletter Hm ok. Probably true. It just doesn't look very dramatic, but then again he's an ex-F1 driver and they don't go sideways that often. I'm too used to the Top Gear driving style I guess.
@csmitty What are you talking about: "wrong side of the car"? How the heck is he going to drive if he's in the passenger seat? DUH!
@kadajawi
Agreed. In the majority of the cornering shots the pace is being set by a hatchback with a giant camera boom strapped to the roof. Sub-par, hardly the fastest this car is capable of.
Video is kinda boring. But the car is beautiful, a worthy replacement for the SLR
@artstate
It isn't meant as a replacement for the SLR McLaren. Look at the price, it's not close. It's meant to slot it below it. Still, it is extremely capable.
@paul34 maybe it's not a direct replacement of the SLR, but MB did retire that line, so it's a de facto replacement... if you want to get all technical.
"toss in ex-Formula 1 driver David Coulthard".........Is David Coulthard the Stig? :-)
@Jimi: nah, he hasn't got nearly enough personality.
@Jimi
Doubt it. He races in the DTM and presents F1 on the BBC. I don't think he'd have the time to be at filming every wednesday and feature in the pre recorded stuff. I think the stig is Damon Hill myself.
@Jimi
nah. His chin wouldn't fit into the helmet.
"we've got a spare, don't we?" LOL :-)
wow the noise of that 6.3 litre engine is amazing!
Quick trivia!
What Computer CEO Drives this as his personal car?
Steve Jobs?
Steve Ballmer?
I'll give you a hint, it's Steve Jobs
@rmbrown09
Quick trivia!
What subset of humanity actually gives a shit about that?
Just You?
Everyone Else?
I'll give you a hint, it's Just You.
@maxxorz
*golf clap*
@Dafrety *joins the golf clap*
rmbrown09,
He drives a SL not a SLS.
