I strongly disagree given that one can make FROYO/Android 2.2 look/feel like anything they want via the installation of any number of home replacement apps.

Note: My absolute favorite being Launcher Pro Plus.

Having a mobile OS definitely hasn't hurt 'certain competing' slates/tablets (that use the same/inflexible GUI as its much smaller sibling) thus far, and as long as the Android app community starts developing apps that take advantage of the additional screen size (though same resolution), this will prove highly desirable to those with a preference for Google Android.

I intuit that you're right, but I suppose I have to take a wait and see.

Here's hoping that Android3 brings with it GPU accelerated scrolling as this is why apps like LauncherPro are so smooth and iOS is so smooth (incl. browser scrolling). My fear is that on a higher res screen, scrolling web pages and the like will be very choppy with Android2 even with an fast cortex A8.

I'm genuinely curious to see what android has up its UI sleeves for v3. In a few short months, Microsoft is going to hit the scene with TONS of vendor support on equally amazing hardware. I'm guessing that the phones will cost around the same on contract, and so the UX will be the point of comparison. MS looks to be bringing its A game and will rally tons of developer support out of the gate, so google shouldn't become complacent!

Anyway, if the price is right for this tablet, and it can be used like a phone (albeit with a bluetooth headset), then I will choose to buy this over a smartphone. Not if you use a bluetooth headset and carry a bag. Then the tablet is actually quite convenient as a portable internet device, and a smartphone.
