The viewing angle of the screen is much narrower than the ipad's screen.

It has a six hour battery (four running Flash).

It has Windows, and that means it takes 1-2 minutes to start up, or about 30 seconds to resume. Windows like to nag me and try to sell me crap I don't want, and for that I truly hate it - every time I use it.

It has a real keyboard and a kiddy-version trackpad. The Netbook weighs 1.5 lbs (similar to an iPad) and at .55 inches is almost as thin as an iPad. Not only that...but it has an 11.1 inch screen. Before I forget both SD and Memory stick slots and comes with a 2 hour and 10 hour extended battery. Vaio X includes GPS too!

I bought the Vaio X back in Dec as a Christmas gift for my wife. When the iPad was announced I laughed at it as not being worthy....

Then checked one out at the Apple Store. Was blown away by the usability and today it is used every single day, while the Vaio X (an awesome net book) sits on the shelf. The Vaio X with carbon fiber body is just a beautiful machine.

The biggest difference is usability. The iPad doesn't do everything the Vaio X can, the Vaio is far superior for creating presentations (although I have recently figured out how to use Keynote on the ipad and it is pretty neat...) but for pretty much everything else the iPad is way better. Better for web browsing, better for emails, better for games, better for media, on the whole apps run much smoother on the ipad and the instant on and all day battery irrespective of what I do with it and the fact that it doesn't get hot to the touch are other great attributes of the iPad.

Apple knows product management and a good product is always more than the sum of its parts. Anyone one can build a product by checking off a spec sheet, but how the whole thing works from a user experience perspective is the real deal.

I am not surprised netbook sales are suffering. I was wondering what would happen at Best Buys when people could compare iPads next to net books. At my local Best Buy at least the iPad is always out of stock. Apparently, the sell like crazy!

jaffreywali

Comments on

@AlaskanHandyman

Windows 7, too limited and "compared to OS X mobile" don't fit in the same sentence.

What kind of crack are you on?

I may have only bought the low-end iPad, but it's still not as useful as my 11.6" Acer. I sold my laptop' bought a netbook when I got my iPad, ended up selling that because eit got no use, then my roommate gave me his netbook, an extremely well built asus netbook, still found it barely useable compares to my iPad so let him keep that, finally just bought / built another desktop for any serious gaming and for when I don't feel like typing papers on my iPad for university.

No one is telling me their netbook is more useful than an iPad except for viewing flash content (poorly) and that's about it. I've had Dell minis, asus', played around with a friends acer netbook, none of them compare in user experience, convenience, or ease of use. In the time it takes some of my friends net books to turn on and render imdb to look something up, I've already hit the imdb app, gotten the answer, and responded to an email.
