Welcome to the "we are recovering from PAX" edition of Betawatch! The gaming industry has been buzzing for the past week or two, and there's plenty to tell.
Captains of Dark Tide has thrown its fans for a loop with a surprise shutdown of the servers and allusions to a mysterious large publisher who will "take Captains of DarkTide to the next level." We're excited to see good things happen for the game, but for now, the servers are down and the open beta is nonexistent.
Earth Eternal leaves Betawatch, but not in the way we hoped. After a brief ray of hope in which CEO Matt Mihaly announced that the game had a buyer, the EE site disappeared.
On a happier note, Final Fantasy XIV moved to open beta -- albeit with a few stops and starts -- and Lord of the Rings Online launched in its new free-to-play iteration.
