The Daily Grind: When do you call it quits?

Many of us who read this site are longtime gamers. We have our loyalty to certain brands or maybe to a specific producer. However, games get old. Not only do the mechanics become outdated, but the grind wears, too. There comes a point when, no matter what a game producer may add to a game, it just isn't enough to keep you tied to it. EverQuest has produced 17 expansions -- that's more than two a year -- yet the population dwindles little by little.

In the same vein, EverQuest is over 11 years old. It was released in 1999. Is it ever going to run out of players to support the label? Sony Online Entertainment doesn't seem to think so; it holds a Fan Faire every year for fans of its games, and every year, we hear stories of how the number of EQ players outnumber players for every other game that SOE runs.

This leads to today's question: When do you call it quits? Are there certain things that games do or don't do that make you decide that you're done? What about the opposite -- is there a game that you just can't let go of?
