World of WarCrafts: Tasty Cupcake

World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more. Sample the whole spectrum on our Arts and Crafts in WoW page.

Before we get started today, I'd like to make a formal request -- send in your crafts! Whether it be fan art, music, cakes, plush animals or action figures, we'd love to see your not-for-profit, crafty interpretations of World of Warcraft. We'll take anything, although I'll have you know that I personally would love to see some more World of Warcraft tattoos. They may not be super-crafty, exactly, but our gallery of Warcraft tattoos is pretty out of date. Send them in!

On to the crafts! Today, we've got a ... unique recipe. Most recipes featured on this site have been given raid references; the more complex the recipe, the harder the raid. Today's recipe is a different animal entirely -- a solo quest, if you will, suitable for both experienced raiders and new players alike. The Tasty Cupcake doesn't serve any real purpose in game other than making the player happy, and this real-life version serves the same purpose -- with a twist. Throw out your typical perception of what a tasty cupcake ought to be, because today we're bringing you tasty cake -- in a cup!

Let's head to the kitchen and make the fastest cake you've ever seen!

Tasty Cupcake

Item Level 80
Use: Cupcakes make you happy.

This item isn't available on a vendor; you have to make your own! The recipe drops from pretty much any mob in Northrend and can be learned by anyone with a cooking skill level of 350 or higher.

... Or you can just continue reading, and make one of your own without having to farm a lot of mobs. It's up to you!

Prerequisites

In order to accept this quest, you will need the following:

  • 4 Tablespoons flour

  • 4 Tablespoons sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons cocoa

  • 1 egg

  • 3 Tablespoons milk

  • 3 Tablespoons of oil

  • 1 mug

The quest

This quest is going to take you to a new zone -- the microwave!

  • Read your quest text. Get your mug, and mix the flour, sugar and cocoa together.

  • Follow the NPC directions. Add one egg; make sure you've looted a good egg. We don't need any eel eggs in this thing.

  • Check your location on the minimap. Mix in your milk and oil -- and please, no Greasy Whale Milk.

Make sure your concoction is mixed together well, and click the microwave door to start the quest. Microwave the mug for 3 minutes on maximum power. This is for a 1,000-watt microwave; you may need to adjust times if your microwave has a lower wattage.

Enjoy the cutscene as the cake rises in the mug. Wait for it to set in the mug before removing it from the microwave, and be careful -- it's going to be hot!

Easter eggs

For a different twist, you can use the following:

  • dark, bittersweet or flavored cocoa

  • flavored instant coffee (think Maxwell House's International Cafe or something along those lines)

  • 3 Tablespoons applesauce instead of oil

  • chocolate or peanut butter chips

  • coconut

  • pecans or walnuts

Quest rewards

After waiting for the cutscene to finish, tip the contents of the mug into a bowl or onto a saucer. Top with fruit preserves, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips or ice cream, and dig in!

When most people think of cupcakes, they think of frosting-topped confections. With this cupcake, you can have a piece of warm, fresh cake any time you'd like! While it's not the same as a full-fledged decorated masterpiece, this easy-to-make cake offers the opportunity for even a novice player to receive a substantial upgrade in the dessert slot. Plus, the only cleanup required is washing out the mug -- and that's enough to make anyone happy!
