WRUP: Whatever happened to Neptulon, anyway?

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" -- otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!

When last we left Neptulon the Tidehunter, the brave lord of elementals was assisting us in defeating the foul kraken Ozumat in the Throne of Tides 5-man instance. But, of course, Ozumat was not killed -- merely weakened. The beast disappeared into the deep, and Neptulon disappeared along with him!

What happened? Well, we may not find out. Blizzard, defending its choice to not include an Abyssal Maw 5-man instance (or raid) in patch 4.2, said this past week that:

We've decided for now that the Vashj'ir quest line along with the Throne of the Tides dungeon does a pretty good job of finishing the Neptulon story.

Those of us at WoW Insider respectfully disagree; there's more story here to be told. And since we all loathe untied ends, I decided to pose the question to our writers and editors this week: "Using your best predictive and story-telling abilities ... what happened to Ozumat and Neptulon?"

Alex Ziebart(@AlexZiebart) I'll be playing some more Fable III this weekend. I picked it up despite Mike Sacco telling me it was awful, and it turned out to actually be a lot of fun. I'll also be slaving away some more on my novel, as will be the case for many weekends to come. As for Neptulon, Danny Whitcomb stole my answer. Since I appear before him alphabetically, it would be cruel to give the same answer and make it look like he stole mine instead.

Brian Wood (@FrostheimWHU) This long weekend is the WHU BBQ, where I'll be hanging out in RL with piles of other hunters and broadcasting the Hunting Party Podcast live from the BBQ. Neptulon and Ozumat proceeded to do some lore things that had nothing to do with game mechanics or DPS and was intricately woven in with other lore things, to make a beautiful and complete lorescape. That's about as far as my story interest extends into anything not dwarf -related.

Dan O'Halloran(@danoh) Started the second book in the Game of Thrones series. Great stuff. Working on a baby mage and the rest of the Hyjal quest chain on my boomkin main. As for Neptulon and Ozumat, I always imagined they washed up on a deserted island where coconuts work as phones and second rate Hollywood stars made brief appearances. I just can't decide which one is the Skipper and which one is the Lil' Buddy.

Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) My gnome warrior is 1 level away from Titan's Grip, so I'm definitely making that happen. Then she can dual wield flaming axes with skulls on them and be basically the most metal gnome ever. I'll also be going on an archaeology binge. I've been having a rare drought lately, but I want that Professor title. Finally, I may do a little CTA tanking in the Dungeon Finder. I got a Blue Proto-Drake in a bag the other day, and it's sort of got me hooked. As far as Ozumat and Neptulon go, I assume Neptulon finally remembered that he was the creator of the Naga and the absolute ruler of the oceans, then proceeded to have the entire ocean put Ozumat and the Naga in a sleeper hold until they promised to behave.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I want to play L.A. Noire some more, but I'm working nights. I strongly suspect that spending the day playing a video game where I drive with lights and sirens and hang around crime scenes is going to adversely affect my performance at my job at night, where I drive with lights and sirens and hang around crime scenes. I will probably pick up a copy of Oblivion for my new computer, and then spend hours modding it, and then spend more hours trying to fix the mods, and then give up and play Dungeon Hunter 2 on my phone. I have no opinion about the bonus question.

Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) Long holiday weekend! Friday night was awesome, despite the fact that I spent it with Tyler (midnight swing set enjoyment was go); Saturday, given access to an L.A. Noire disc, shall prove even better still. As for how the Ozumat/Neptulon story ends ... well, that's what the gallery is for, right?

Joe Perez (@Lodurzj) Trying out RP in WoW for the first time. More alt leveling, maybe some extra raiding. Learning how to actually build a house in Teraria and more League of Legends! As far as what I think happens now with Neptulon and Ozumat, I think it was all a ploy! That's right the entire fight was just a coverup! These two were obviously star-crossed lovers who have run away to be with each other. They have obviously gone to Vegas to get married. I have enclosed a picture of said event.

Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) Hoping to finish Outland (XBLA game, not the WoW zone) and maybe getting some more ZA/ZG in. As for Ozumat and Neptulon? I'm waiting for someone to turn it into a super-hot yaoi manga. Yup. Just you wait and see. I could draw something, but I like working at WI, so... ;)

Lisa Poisso (@emused) Rearranging my reading shelf and deciding what to take on my upcoming road trip. Hiding the things I want to read before my husband or son move them to their own piles. Figuring out what titles to reserve at the library for said trip. Drooling over my online reading list and making desperate resist rolls against ordering a new batch. Looking innocent when husband finishes dailies and comes out to ask, "What have you been doing out here?" Bonus question: Is there a book that explains it?

Mat McCurley (@gomatgo) Pushing through L.A. Noire, which is so incredibly good. I've got a BBQ for Memorial Day, too. In true Warcraft fashion, Neptulon will be back, corrupted, and drop nice things. Also, hostage bachelor party?

Matt Low (@Matticus) Been busy playing League of Legends with the guild. Getting a little more proficient at it. Perhaps some more time leveling yet another priest.

Matt Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) Well, first off, the last time *I* saw Neptulon, I kicked Ozumat's behindus and sent him off to live with Zoidberg. Neptulon was grateful and gave me a box full of stuff I turned into Heavenly Shards. As for what I'm doing this weekend, possibly raiding, definitely running ZG/ZA on multiple warriors, and trying to convince the enormous tentacled monstrosity on my couch to get a job.

Michael Gray (@writegray) This weekend, I aim to spend some time on the Appalachian trail and building a fence so that I can once again play ball with the Dark Puppy. I'm also hoping to get by Joker's Tavern in Funkstown to enjoy a few cold ones. Neptulon? No doubt, he felt he consumed WoW's content too quickly and has wandered off until they put more hardcore content in place for someone of his high skill and caliber. Ozumat said he felt that the Naga had started catering to the casubads, so went off to find greener pastures.

Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) I'm throwing a party! Or depending on when this got published, I had a party! I asked The Spawn, my five-year-old daughter, what she thought happened with Ozumat and Neptulon. She said, "He ate him. The octopus/kraken guy is a zombie monster and he ate the other guy's brains. And now he's a zombie too. And they are going to eat everyone's brains and turn them all into zombies."

Sarah Nichol (@mentalshaman) I'll be questing through Durotar and beyond with my new troll shaman and enjoying a long bank holiday weekend. Hopefully filled with gaming in the form of WoW and RIFT, and a touch of re-reading A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin. As for the end of Vash'jir, I think Ozumat has spirited Neptulon away to play Risk.

Tyler Caraway (@murmursofadruid) I've gotten back into paladin tanking, so I'm trying to make that work for me right now. Just got into TBC content, so we'll see how it goes from there. Aside from that, I'll be spending time exploring this new city and making some new friends as I get situated in this place. It's bound to be an epic adventure, because I'm involved in it. Bonus question: Ozumat clearly left the field of battle to go on reality talk shows to talk about his experiences in attempting to kill Neptulon and the horrible things he suffered at the hands of wayfaring adventurers. He's also supporting his new book about saving the wild life of Azeroth's oceans, which is sure to be a best seller. Neptulon wandered off to become a drunken hobo drifting along the currents of the seas, eventually to be washed ashore on a tropical island paradise where he meets a band of shipwrecked castaways. Hilarity ensues.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
