BioShock InfiniteCurrent Release Date: February 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Despite being given a solid release date of October 16, 2012
back in March, Irrational's first game since seeing success with 2007's BioShock
was delayed early this month
. Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine was clear in his letter to fans about the delay: "We've uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary." Given our impressions of the game thus far, we have high hopes for BioShock Infinite
Aliens: Colonial MarinesCurrent Release Date: February 12, 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii U)
The Gearbox-developed, canonical shooter within the Aliens
universe is no stranger to delays. After being first announced back in 2006
-- before development on the project began
-- Sega has continuously pushed the project. After what seemed like a final push to Fall 2012
, Sega announced on Monday
that Aliens: Colonial Marines
would now ship in 2013. A date for the Wii U version of the game has not been established.
Tomb RaiderCurrent Release Date: Q1 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Crystal Dynamics has been hard at work rebooting the the Tomb Raider
franchise, but the upcoming action title isn't quite ready to make its intended Fall 2012 release date. On the subject of its delay announcement on May 14
, Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher wrote that his team was working to make "the best game of our careers" and a product at the quality level players "deserve." Other than details revealed
when it was announced, little is known about Lara's return. More on the game is expected at E3 2012 from publisher Square Enix.
South Park: The GameCurrent Release Date: Q4 of FY2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Given THQ's recent financial issues, its delays are not surprising. South Park: The Game
from developer Obsidian Entertainment is one of many projects that have slipped from the publisher's release calendar, with its delay announced
only a week ago. There's also still no word if the leaked name South Park: The Stick of Truth
is the final moniker.
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White WitchCurrent Release Date: Q1 2013 (PS3)
Namco Bandai's localized version of Level-5 and Studio Ghibli's PS3 RPG was set to launch in the winter of 2012
, but was pushed to a new 2013 release window in early April
. Released in Japan in 2011, Ni No Kuni
is the perfect title to show off our gorgeous HD screens. The game looks stunning.
DmC: Devil May CryCurrent Release Date: January 15, 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Ninja Theory's reboot of the popular action series Devil May Cry was originally given the vague release window of "some time in 2012," so getting pushed to 2013
wasn't a surprise. Expect more details on the game at E3 2012. A PC version is also in the works, slated to launch "later in 2013."
Metro: Last LightCurrent Release Date: Q1 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, WiiU)
THQ's third-quarter financial earning report quietly revealed
that Metro: Last Light
would miss its originally scheduled 2012 release, pegging a Q1 2013 window on the 4A Games-developed title. More on the follow-up to 2010's surprise hit, survivalist shooter is expected leading up to E3 2012.
Prey 2Current Release Date: "Beyond 2012" (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
With rumors that development on the game has been suspended
, but assurances the title is not canceled
, the fate of Human Head Studios' impressive looking next title looks troubled. This, of course, might not come as a shock considering the original Prey
was announced and worked on in one form or another from 1995 until it launched in 2006. There's no word on whether publisher Bethesda will bring the game to E3 2012, but we're not counting on it.
This list, obviously, doesn't include titles announced specifically for 2013 (such as Company of Heroes 2
). Gamers in 2012 still have a slew of titles to look forward to this year; including Halo 4
, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
, Medal of Honor: Warfighter
, Darksiders 2
, and maybe even
a little game called Grand Theft Auto V
