Apple may have to pay a stiff penalty in Australia over the use of "4G" in the new iPad's model name. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Apple has agreed to pay a A$2.25 million (US$2.2 million) fine to settle a legal battle it has been fighting with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Apple will also pay the ACCC costs of A$300,000 (US$295,000).
Though Apple has said it will pay a fine, the court must still approve the settlement terms before Apple can put this issue behind them. As a result of this case and other similar ones in the UK and Sweden, Apple changed the model name of the mobile networking-capable iPad from " WiFi + 4G" to "WiFi + Cellular."
