Housemarque's action puzzler Furmins HD now exists as a separate Furmins Free app for iOS devices. The free version includes 108 levels across eight worlds, with the first world open by default.

So, where's the microtransactions? Unlocking worlds will cost 100 stars. The exchange rate for stars is 100 for $0.99 (0.79€ / £0.79). Purchasing 700 stars in a bundle, which by our calculation would unlock the whole game, is $3.99 (2.99€, £1.99).

This is the part where we point out Furmins HD – the pay version – is $2.99, saving you, at a minimum, one dollar if you wish to pursue the free version to its conclusion. However, the free version supports Chinese, Korean, and Japanese localization, so that may be of importance.

Furmins Now Available for Free!

HELSINKI, FINLAND – September 03, 2012 – Housemarque, the award-winning Finnish games developer responsible for Angry Birds Trilogy, has released Furmins Free, a free version of Furmins HD, the critically-acclaimed physics-based action puzzler for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The game's furry protagonists are already a household name in the iOS community, and Housemarque hopes this offering will only add to their popularity. "We believe this step will allow us to tap into a brand-new audience," said Ilari Kuittinen, Housemarque's CEO. "We feel there are a lot of gamers out there who perhaps did not have a chance to play the original version, and so we wanted to offer them another opportunity."

In addition to the game's base design of 108 challenging levels spread over eight beautifully-rendered worlds, Furmins Free will include a host of attractive new features, including:

The special world previously unlockable only on Facebook is offered as a standard world in the free version
The first world is open by default, allowing new players to jump right into the action
Bonus worlds can be unlocked as other worlds, offering a greater variety of game play
A thoughtful re-balance of In-App purchases: unlocking a world in Furmins Free will now cost 100 stars, and if a player gets stuck, he/she can buy stars from the in-game shop in the following increments:

. 100 stars: 0.79€ / $0.99 / £0.79
. 250 stars: 1.59€ / $1.99 / £1.49
. 700 stars: 2.99€ / $3.99 / £1.99

Chinese, Korean, and Japanese localizations offered together for the first time
