Witcher franchise up to 5 million sold

CD Projekt's The Witcher games continue to enchant gamers into buying them, with the franchise now over the 5 million mark for copies sold. The figure represents a combined total for The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and with both games on sale this week, it could be on the rise quicker than you can say Gwynbleidd.

A few months after The Wither 2 arrived on Xbox 360, CD Projekt announced the franchise was up to 4 million copies sold. With a further million sold in the six or so months since, it's not surprising to hear CD Projekt SA CEO Adam Kiciński say the console port "largely contributed" to the franchise's new milestone.

The Witcher series has sold over 5 mln copies; now get both games cheaper!

CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher series has been bought by over 5 million gamers. Yesterday, the studio confirmed that it is working on the third installment of the franchise, which will combine nonlinear storytelling with a robust open-world environment.

"The Witcher 3 will be a crowning achievement for the RPG genre, but I am also proud to announce that the number of previous Witcher games sold has surpassed 5 million copies. This is great news, especially since the 2012 debuted console debut on the Xbox 360 contributed largely to this result, receiving great feedback from gamers and critics. The Witcher 2 is already a classic RPG, so if you haven't played it yet be sure to enhance your role-playing collection and experience an unique gaming adventure" - said Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD PROJEKT SA group.

To celebrate both the new sales figures and the announcement of the new Witcher game, the developers of the award-winning Witcher franchise have dropped the price of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 to 29.99 USD/ 29.99 EUR/ 19.99 GBP and are putting The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition on sale for 50% off at GOG.com and Steam until the 8th of February.

The recently announced third instalment of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final episode of the award-winning RPG series and the final chapter in the legend of Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the most robust and breathtaking game ever created by CD Projekt RED. Open world free-roaming exploration is an adventure in itself, as the player will gallop through war-ravaged lands, sail misty waters and track down dangerous beasts for money. The combat system has been highly refined and improved, making it much more responsive. It will allow players to feel like a real monster-hunter, a witcher – who uses his superior senses and fighting skills to survive in a dark fantasy world, while he embarks on a quest to save his loved ones. The mechanics of The Witcher 3 allow complete player immersion, with no Quick Time Events - only intuitive RPG gameplay.
