Having passed certification early, Microsoft has released the Halo 4 "Forge Island" map well in advance of its expected April 11 date. On their own, these aren't the most exciting locations – three big, flat islands – but they're intended to be the base for Forge Mode customization. Gears of War Judgment's Execution multiplayer is also available today, along with the map Haven, "courtesy of Maxim and Epic Games." Weird. Microsoft warns that you have to download this DLC directly from the title menu or from the Dashboard. "The dialogue box prompting you to download the pack in the matchmaking menu is not functioning properly and will be fixed as soon as possible."
We're pleased to announce that Forge Island – which was revealed at PAX East – has passed the Certification process early and is now available to download on Xbox LIVE, at no additional cost to Xbox LIVE members. A massive new play space featuring islands known as the "Great Anvils", Forge Island delivers three flat, modifiable areas that will give Forge creators both the acreage and new building assets to craft an infinite range of multiplayer maps for the Halo community to explore and enjoy.
Forge Island can be redeemed via the "Halo 4" in-game store, or via the Xbox LIVE marketplace. Requires "Halo 4" game (sold separately) and 150MB storage. Xbox LIVE Gold membership (sold separately) required for online multiplayer.
Epic Games and MAXIM launch the first game add-on and title update for "Gears of War: Judgment" featuring fan-favorite multiplayer mode Execution and a new multiplayer map, Haven
Starting today, begin the executions courtesy of MAXIM and Epic Games with the first game add-on for "Gears of War: Judgment." The DLC includes the return of the wildly popular multiplayer mode Execution and a new multiplayer map called Haven, which will be free for a limited time only.
In Execution mode, the objective of each team is to kill all members of the enemy team before the time limit runs out. The catch? Unless hit with a one-shot kill weapon like the Booshka, players go into a "Down But Not Out" state and will revive at the end of the bleed-out timer instead of dying. To finish the job, perform an Execution on a downed enemy.
In addition to the new mode and map, special playlists for both Haven and Execution will be available for Gearheads, offering 200% XP boosts for a limited time (VIP pass holders will receive 300% XP boosts in the VIP playlist).
PLEASE NOTE: You must download the DLC pack directly from the game's title menu or the Xbox 360 dashboard. You can also add it to your download queue with this link via Xbox.com. The dialogue box prompting you to download the pack in the matchmaking menu is not functioning properly and will be fixed as soon as possible.
In addition to the DLC, the first title update will be going live today as well. Additional details can be found on Epic's forum.
