One Shots: March beneath the raptor's wings

One Shots March beneath the raptor's wings

Man, it's downright shadowy underneath the raptor's wings! Reader Draxos is kicking off our player screenshot exhibition this week with an interestingly lit picture from Star Trek Online's new expansion.

"This picture is of my new Romulan character inside a Romulan space station that was having a few ... issues," Draxos wrote in. "When the lights suddenly go out in a space station, you become thankful for the brightness outside the window because then at least there is some chance of seeing what may now be lurking within the darkness. Although you could say that my Reman crew members are the true ones to be fearful of in the dark."

Couldn't you use the Borg's head as a flashlight? That's what I would do. Join us for more shadowy flights into dangerous worlds of characters who do not exist in today's One Shots!

One thing I love about this column is that it shows us all on a weekly basis that there are, indeed, people who are still playing "that game." For example, Vanguard. For example, a humble warrior named Low Distortion. For example, right below.

"This is my Orc Monk Fistoh meditating for a moment while waiting for warlord to pop. This is taken inside the Rhaz Inkur dungeon. I love the colors and style of this dungeon! Thanks to Stardragon for reminding me how to remove all the clutter for a good screenshot," Low Distortion said.

Stardragon, we truly owe you a life debt for your excellent service in the name of groovy screenshots.

As generally terrifical (shush, editors, that is so a word) as Guild Wars 2 is, it's not without its glaring flaws. Reader Jaxom found a really obvious one that's rich with possibilities for bad jokes and puns. I'll leave it to all of you to do so in the comments.

"With the most recent game update," Jaxom pontificates, "I was back at Southsun when I came across some weird writing in the sand. Oddly, my wife (playing next to me) did not see any writing at all, so I can only assume it was a small bug. In any case, if you ask me, there's nothing 'normal' about it."

OH JAXOM I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.

I'm going to let reader Eric explain this: "Not only did I create a character with the new power set, Quantum, in DCUO, but I also used him to beat down Swamp Thing in the season spring event that's happening now in-game. This shot shows me casting a cool wiggly force field of time juice... or something. I'm really loving the new power set!"

Seriously, Eric, I did not understand a single word you used there. Quantum? Do you just like tossing that around so that you'll sound smart and I'll be left sitting here like a fool? I think you do. I think you very much enjoy making me feel foolish. Also, Swamp Thing isn't a character. I think you meant to write "Swamp Thang." And time juice? That got discontinued around the time of Crystal Pepsi!

Nobody reads this last paragraph. Really, I could write anything here and get away with bloody murder. Purple penguin plexiglass popsicle. Eeenie meanie miney moe, catch a tiger with your toe. It was a dark and steamy night, and Desiree came into the room wearing the sheerest bikini chainmail armor. "Oh, it's you!" she said. "I'm so surprised that I might proc a crit right now!"
