It may lack bells and whistles such as the legal-size scanning bed of the high-end HP Officejet Pro 8600, but it nails standard functions at about a third of the price.

While not quite as appealing as a straight $50 discount would be, Target's offer of a $50 gift card is a solid reward for current-gen iPad holdouts who have decided to wait before taking the plunge on Apple's latest and greatest tablet. In our review in October, we saluted the tablet's blistering speed (thanks to its A6X processor), and impressive battery life. Other reviewers were nearly unanimous with high praise, hailing the tablet to the tune of a gdgt Score of 97 and a coveted "Must-have" distinction. If you're looking for something more petite, the $329.99 iPad Mini is also available, along with a $40 Target gift card.

If you're looking for a cheap, small, portable hard drive, critics say the My Passport is a good option. It may lack the speeds and swappable docks of higher-cost competitors, such as the SeaGate FreeAgent GoFlex, but its USB 3.0 compatibility helps with speeds if hooked up to newer devices. Reviews note that the My Passport makes sense for business travelers and photographers.

The 15.6-inch screen laptop is a low-cost back-to-school option. Its AMD E1-1500 processor, 4GB memory and 320GB hard drive should be able to handle classroom needs while leaving enough student loan money left over for post-study bar-hopping. It's bundled with Windows 8, has a built-in webcam and is equipped for 802.11b/g/n WiFi. Office Max is offering the laptop for $70 cheaper than HP is selling it on its own site.
RCA 50-inch LED 1080p HDTV

It's rare to break the 50-inch screen/less-than-$500 threshold for 1080p LEDs. This RCA model may not wow you with specs, but it manages to provide head-turning size and considerable value. Sacrifices for the lower price include making do with only 2 HDMI ports and accepting that the set won't be able to access online apps. Its 3000:1 contrast ratio, 6.5ms response time and 60Hz refresh rates are basic. The set's top qualities appear to be its big screen, slim depth (less than 4 inches) and light weight at 37.4 pounds. Note that delivery costs are about $60, so you're best off ordering with free in-store pickup.

Although the 2006 DVD version of Rod Serling's seminal psychological thriller series doesn't look nearly as beautiful as last year's Blu-ray set, there is remarkable value here for those who can stomach SD video quality in exchange for saving nearly $100 over the Blu-ray. All 156 episodes of the 1959-64 series could make for a whopping 75+ hour marathon, but you're better off spacing it out.
