Last month, Samsung gave us a look at two new ATIV Book 9 Ultrabooks, both of which will replace the company's famed Series 9 lineup. While the ATIV Book 9 Plus, with its QHD+ display and brand-new Haswell chip, may be a tad more exciting than the Book 9 Lite with its unspecified quad-core processor, it's the latter machine that's getting US pricing info today. At the end of the month, Samsung will offer the Book 9 Lite for $800. That relatively affordable sum gets you a 13.3-inch, 1,366 x 768 capacitive touchscreen, 128 gigs of SSD storage, AMD Radeon graphics and up to 5.5 hours of battery life (according to Sammy's Mobile Mark 12 tests, that is; the company saw 8.5 hours on Mobile Mark 7).
In our brief hands-on time, we found both the Plus and Lite models to be comfortable; the main differences are the Plus' superior processor, higher-res display and slightly sleeker design. While both machines seem like solid options, we'd be remiss not to mention that the Plus will likely get a US launch date of its own very soon -- and its higher-end specs could make it worth the wait. If you're already set on the ATIV Book 9 Lite, though, you can get your pre-order on now at Samsung's site, or look for the machine in stores starting on July 28th.
Samsung Announces U.S. Launch of ATIV Book 9 Lite
Book 9 Lite, now available for pre-sale, offers beautiful design, intelligent performance and affordability in latest iteration of ATIV Book 9 family
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – July 15, 2013 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced the
U.S. launch of the ATIV Book 9 Lite. Taking a page from the celebrated and iconic design of the Book 9 family of PCs, Samsung continues to deliver on the promise of ATIV by offering consumers cuttingedge technology, seamless convergence and unparalleled style in a slim, compact form factor. The sophisticated, yet affordable Book 9 Lite gives users everything they need to stay connected, productive and entertained. It is now available for pre-sale in the U.S. and will be in stores beginning on July 28.
"With the ATIV Book 9 Lite, we created a device that fits the needs of a larger consumer base, while preserving the remarkable design and overall experience delivered by the Book 9 lineage," said Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "To further streamline the computing experience and offer convenience to users, we built an integrated solution, SideSync, to bring together the mobile and PC ecosystems."
The ATIV Book 9 Lite offers the same premium and striking design identity as the ATIV Book 9 in a more widely accessible model. With a refined aerodynamic architecture, accentuated by a sophisticated Ash Black or Marble White color, users do not have to compromise style for performance.
Built with cutting-edge technology, including a ten-point touch-screen LCD display, Quad Core Processor and a 128GB SSD, the Book 9 Lite balances exceptional features with overall value. Weighing three and a half pounds and measuring less than an inch thick, the Book 9 Lite is an ideal choice for mobile consumers and business travelers alike.
Samsung customers can enjoy a completely integrated experience across their smartphones, tablets and PCs, thanks to SideSync technology. The SideSync solution creates a synergy between Samsung's mobile and PC lines, enabling users to seamlessly switch from working on their PC to their Galaxy smartphone by simply connecting the two devices via a USB cable. When connected, users can respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from their phone on their PC screen; make edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC; and even drag and drop files from one unit to another. The result is a more unified experience, fewer interruptions to work and everyday life, and the ability to utilize the best features of both devices.
The ATIV Book 9 Lite is now available for pre-sale for an MSRP of $799.99 and will be available for instore purchase beginning July 28.
