Lego Movie Videogame is the tie-in to end all tie-ins

Lego Movie Videogame is the tiein to end all tieins

Warner Bros. announced The Lego Movie Videogame this week, a video game tie-in to a movie about a toy. We're consequentially expecting the world to end when the toy-movie-video game comes out next year for just about everything - that's PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and 3DS if you're after specifics.

The game pits players as Emmet, acted by Everwood star Chris Pratt in the film, the figurine hero of the movie who's mistakenly identified as the Master Builder capable of saving the world. Going by early screenshots, it looks like the game won't deviate far from Traveller's Tales' tried-and-tested formula of platforming, exploration, and construction.

There's no news on whether or not the movie's all-star cast, including Will Arnett (as Batman), Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell, and Elizabeth Banks, features in the game. We'd have to say excluding Arnett in particular would be a huge mistake. %Gallery-193928%

BURBANK, Calif. – July 16, 2013 – The fate of the LEGO® world lies in your hands! Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games today announced that The LEGO Movie Videogame will be available in 2014 alongside the much-anticipated "The LEGO Movie," from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, and a toy collection of "The LEGO Movie" building sets.

The LEGO® Movie Videogame will be released for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 4® and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, the Wii U™ system and Windows® PC, as well as Nintendo 3DS™ handheld system and PlayStation® Vita handheld entertainment system.

In a scenario drawn from the film, The LEGO Movie Videogame puts LEGO kids into the role of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Players guide him as he is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

"We're thrilled to be able to give kids the joy of reliving Emmet's adventures in becoming virtual Master Builders with The LEGO® Movie Videogame," said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games Publishing. "Players will be taking on the ultimate mission to save the LEGO world and use their virtual building prowess to build unimaginable sets and creations."

In The LEGO® Movie Videogame players will be able to collect and use LEGO instruction pages to build construction sets or harness the awesome power of the Master Builders to virtually build extraordinary LEGO creations along the way. With more than 90 characters inspired by the film and 15 exciting levels, kids can build and adventure like never before.
