Square Enix partners with Latin American studio for Project Carnival

There's always something to ruin millenniums of peace for everyone, isn't there? Such is life in the universe of Project Carnival, a role-playing trading card game in joint development between Square Enix and Argentinian developer Okam Studio.

In Project Carnival, the gods responsible for babysitting the world just up and left one day, leaving its inhabitants to get along on their own. Naturally, many of them strapped on armor and started swinging sharp things at each other. In order to teach these warriors a lesson, a terrifying, flaming crown-wearing figure called Momo trapped them all inside playing cards. Momo plays a game with these cards on an annual basis known as Project Carnival.

Okam Studio's website states that the game is "designed to be played individually," but that it includes "elements of cooperative play and player-versus-player." Project Carnival is scheduled to draw its first card in 2014 on iOS and Android devices.

Hello, Joystiq:

My name is Santiago, and I'm writing on behalf of Martina Santoro and the entire team of Okam Studio. Okam is an award winning studio specialized in video game development, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The studio works with GODOT, a video game engine developed inhouse. Nowadays we are developing projects alongside SQUARE ENIX, DAEDALIC and Thumbstar. We've recently released METEGOL PURA GARRA for CMD, based on Juan José Campanella's movie, Foosball. The interactive adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizza Boy, with O Pato Professional (Portugal) is among our latest international productions.

I wanted to introduce you to the responsible team of Square Enix Latin America: Igor Inocima (CEO) and Stephanie Prodanovich (Associate Producer). Square-Enix is reaching out to Latin American markets by developing videogames by latin american studios. We are proud to say we are one of the first five teams selected to team up with this amazing company and we are currently developing the co production of the project: CARNIVAL. You can learn more about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ7ZnHl2BSc and here http://okamstudio.com/portfolio-items/carnaval/.

We would love to talk about Carnival and the Square-Enix experience in the region. Feel free to contact us for any information you may need.
