Good news for owners of cracked iPhone 5c screens and other news from Jan. 16, 2014
For those who have damaged their iPhone 5c screens, Apple has some good news for you. Starting Monday, those screens can be repaired in-store in any Apple retail store other than in Hong Kong or Canada. 9to5Mac estimates the cost will be $149 if you don't have AppleCare+ and $79 if you do. Screen repairs for the iPhone 5s remain on the horizon.

MacRumors reports that a number of retail outlets are testing iBeacons, including a trial at 100 American Eagle stores in the U.S. If this trial is successful, it could spread to other stores such as Best Buy, Target, Crate & Barrel, Old Navy and more. And, a newly published patent patent indicates Apple could experiment with using mobile payments via iBeacon as well.
Starbucks has vowed to update its iOS app so your password can be stored more security, alleviating worries of getting a side of identity theft along with your latte.
An NPD report shows that the iPhone makes up 42% of all smartphones owned in the U.S. This is a 7% increase over the previous year. Samsung came in second at 26%.
Fans of standalone Facebook apps can look forward to an entire suite of them, the Verge says. This could include breaking up different Facebook parts into smaller chunks and presenting them as their own apps, such as the news feed and the event listings.
