The Queue: Garrisons, Hearthstone, and the DMF

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

We'll jump right into the questions today, some good ones...

Zapwidget asked:

Any ideas on how Blizzard plans to make Garrisons, which are single-player, the centerpiece of their mmorpg, especially after how many times they emphasized that WoW is not a single-player game?

I think that the premise of your question is wrong -- Blizzard isn't making Garrisons the centerpiece of the game. They're another thing that you can do that's akin to the farm in MoP or pet battles. A side game, a neat thing that you can do in-game that Blizzard thinks is neat. That's ok.

Part of what Blizzard does is make side games that it thinks is fun. A lot of other companies make entire franchises out of the side games that Blizzard has, so I don't think them doing more of this is a bad thing at all. Just more enrichment for an already deep environment. It's a good time. That's the be all end all of it in Blizzard's eyes.

Hexabolt asked:

Are Garrisons a guild or an individual activity? Seems fun if its a private home for a guild, not so if I am alone in it.

Individual. And as Zapwidget mentioned, they're not even account-wide (let alone guild-wide).

Gothar asked:

Do you think we will see anything added to the Darkmoon Faire? It got its major revamp back in Cata. and there are all those closed off buildings just hinting at more content to be added in the future.

I hope so! There's not any real indication any way, although Blizzard has said plenty of times that they'd like to expand it. Honestly they need to, and get rid of all the current holidays while they're at it and put in new ones.

But... I'm not holding my breath. I don't expect this anytime soon.

Jpec asked:

Has there been any indication as to whether or not people will be able to opt out of garrisons? It's a cool feature and all, but it feels like it's going to be forced on us--and some of us just want to get to 100 to be able to do stuff, not necessarily to be told what to do.

It's too soon to say for sure, but even though the questing experience might take you through your initial garrison creation, I can't foresee it being an absolute requirement of the game. The farm isn't a requirement for end game at the moment, and there's no indication it will be mandated in any way that running dungeons for your gear is mandated.

I think we all just need to take a breath and wait to see how the beta turns out. Not even the alpha here -- the beta. Let's see Blizzard's design then.

JeffLaBowski asked:

Does anyone know if people get the same daily quests in Hearthstone. For example: If today's quest for me is X wins with Y class, will it be the same for all?

I believe they're random. A friend of mine and I had entirely different quests the other day, and then we a day where we had one that was the same.
