The Queue: All will be revealed

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. I am a traveler in both time and space to be where I have been.

I'm telling you guys, seriously, there needs to be a Warlords of Draenor machinima set to Kashmir. Go read the lyrics if you don't believe me. Father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years - Someone get on this.

panicForce asks:
To what degree to high elves still exist?

There are very, very few high elves left. Conservative estimates are that roughly 1 out of 10 high elves survived the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas and the destruction of the Sunwell. Of those survivors (basically 1/10th of their numbers before Arthas) only 1 in 10 of those decided to forgo racial solidarity and remained a high elf. Most of those were the ones in the Allerian Stronghold before the reopening of the Dark Portal by Kazzak (who didn't even know about the Sunwell's destruction and the creation of the blood elves) or scattered among institutions like the Kirin Tor in Dalaran, lodges like Quel'Danil Lodge, and a small population in Theramore that died when the Horde bombed the city.

It's fair to say that none of your options are accurate - there's probably at least a few hundred of them left. But that's basically it. It's strange to count blood elves and high elves as a different race - it's not been all that long since Kael declared them the Sin'dorei. But if you do, then high elves are a race to which extinction is practically assured.

  • a handful in the world, no more than a dozen.

  • none of them anywhere, everyone's a blood elf.

  • open your damn eyes, Force. there are tons.

Orkchop asks:
What's your favorite toy on your desk? or What's your favorite WoW toy?

I don't have a desk. My favorite WoW toy is the Swift Gryphon from the Mega Bloks set, because my wife got it for me for Christmas.

Fizzl asks:
If I ask enough good questions to fill a whole Queue will you do an all-Fizzl Queue on Friday?

I might. It depends entirely on if I think they're that good, since I write the Friday Queue. Also, I have to be able to find them - if you ask an awesome question in a Queue with huge nested comment trees where the commenters are insulting each other, I might miss it. I also often ask twitter for questions - my twitter account is @matthewwrossi if you want to improve your chances.

But generally, I try and pick multiple people to answer so that people feel like there's a chance their question will get answered. So it's probably not very likely I'd do a Queue just based on person's questions.

HerrKlokbot asks:
QftQ: With the latest news on upgrading gear with VP's, how far into Warlords of Draenor do you expect our current gear, fully upgraded (somewhere from 550-590'ish, I guess), to actually last?

If you're in full heroic Warforged gear upgraded four times, I'd expect to start having to replace it around level 92. Why? Because when the item squish drops, those ilevels won't be as big a jump in power anyway. This is what Xal'atoh heroic warforged will look like in patch 6.0. This is the normal, non warforged version of the same weapon. Even fully upgraded, I expect we'll outlevel them fast.

Angus Magrath asks:
What would make for an epic launch event for WoD?

Lots of things would. The Burning Legion destroying Pandaria would. Wrathion's All Night Hot Tub Dance Party would. I can just imagine him wearing a cape and singing now. But if you're asking me if I think that the announced idea - the Dark Portal turns red, Iron Horde comes boiling out, we have to fight them back and invade Draenor will be epic, I certainly hope so, if that's what they end up doing.

You know what would be cool? We go to Draenor, and a younger Cairne Bloodhoof is there. But Matt, you say, Cairne is a tauren and thus native to Azeroth, he wasn't on Draenor 30+ years ago and then I say CAIRNE BLOODHOOF YEAHHHHHHH like Roger Daltrey and then the guitars start wailing and Cairne's all 'sup, I came to Draenor thirty years early even though that makes absolutely no sense now let's kill Garrosh and have an awesome pool party for all my Horde and Alliance friends because now I'm the leader of both factions and there are no factions anymore, just me, Cairne Bloodhoof YEAHHHHHH and then I wake up and none of that is going to happen.

Sigh.

Merily asks:
Would you ever think about doing some kind of "Then-And-Now" retrospective based on old WOW Insider articles? I was just skimming through random old pages. Lot of interesting stuff, and fun to see how it compares to where the game is now, and if authors (who are still here), have changed their minds.

I'd rather not. Seeing what I wrote in 2007 would be like going through a portal to an alternate timeline where I didn't make the same choices and history came out differently. That would just be weird. (It's a cool idea, I'm not sure how much actual interest there would be in it though.)

MTA asks:
If you could change one thing about your favourite race, what would it be? Looks, added or removed classes, faction etc...

For me it would be straightening up the male Troll's hunched up posture.

Without seeing the new model for them I can't really say I'd change anything about draenei. If for whatever reason we see the new draenei male model and it still has the weird floating shoulder, then that.

I'd also like Alliance tauren.

Crith asks:
Now that hippopotamuseseses have a WoW-analogue (Riverbeasts), what missing species should be added next? Kangaroos?

Gorgonopsids.

C.W. asks:
How excited are you that Warlords will be changing WoW's questing/leveling experience for the first time since The Burning Crusade? I'm personally looking forward to see how this plays out in zones that are much larger then Timeless isle with dynamic events and non text heavy optional quests.

I'd say I'm intrigued more than excited. I'll know better how excited I am about it once I get to see it in action.

Gazaa07 asks:
Do you think Primary Stats ingame (Strength and Intellect for purpose of this question) should give something else instead of Crit? Intellect giving Haste and Strength giving Mastery at the same rate as they give Crit

No. I think primary stats should just do what primary stats do without adding crit, haste, mastery or anything of the kind. I include agility in this. No crit, no haste, no mastery, no readiness or multistrike. If we want those secondary stats, we should gear for them.

That's been the Queue for Thursday. I'm coming right back Friday, so here's your chance to lob me some questions two days in a row.
