iPhone models remain the most popular cameras on Flickr
Sparked by the iPhone, the smartphone revolution put the power to take amazing photographs into the hands of millions of people, obviating the need in many cases for dedicated point-and-shoots. While the original iPhone camera wasn't anything to write home about, Apple has devoted considerable engineering resources towards ensuring that photos taken on the iPhone are best in class.
Today, the iPhone is one of the most popular and most used cameras on the planet. In the wake of the 2014 iPhone Photography awards, I visted Flickr to see how popular the iPhone is with the service. Suffice it to say, it's more popular than ever, though the iPhone kicking butt on Flickr is hardly a new phenomenon.
When we take a look at the most popular cameras used by the Flickr community, various iPhone models occupy four of the top five slots. Note, though, that both the iPhone 4 and 4s make the list while the 5c is nowhere to be found. Interestingly, iPhone 5s usage on Flickr hasn't yet caught up to the iPhone 5. According to metrics available on Flickr's website, there's an average of about 12,425 daily users who use an iPhone 5 compared to about 9,705 users who use an iPhone 5s. And believe it or not, there's an average of about 1 daily user who makes use of an Apple QuickTake.
When we take into account smartphones exclusively, the colorful iPhone 5c finally decides to show its face. Here, it's a clean sweep for the iPhone.
