Digimon, digital monsters. Digimon are the CHAMPIONS! Digimon, digital monsters. Digimon are the ... Oh hello, we didn't hear you come in. We were too busy humming the Digimon theme song, something we do every time a new Digimon game gets announced. This time, it's Digimon All-Star Rumble, a multiplayer battle game that sees various virtual pets duke it out to determine who's the real champion.
Super Smash Bros. may be the obvious comparison based on the trailer and screenshots, but we'd argue that All-Star Rumble has quite a few elements drawn from the Dreamcast fighting series Power Stone as well. Not much information regarding gameplay was given, but environments and movement are three-dimensional, and characters digi-volve mid-fight to become more powerful versions of themselves.
How that balances out so that a cyborg wolf with jet wings doesn't mop the floor with an adorable kitten is something we won't discover until November 11, when Digimon All-Star Rumble comes to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Enter the Ultimate Digimon Evolution Tournament to Defeat All Rivals and Become the Strongest Digimon Hero of Them All
SAN JOSE, Calif., (July 31, 2014) – BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. announced today that the DIGIMON All-Star Rumble video game is scheduled to launch at retailers in the Americas for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft on November 11, 2014. DIGIMON All-Star Rumble is a thrilling party-arena multiplayer game based on the popular Digimon franchise that includes a toy line, television series, anime, manga, films and a variety of video games.
In DIGIMON All-Star Rumble, the Digital World enjoys a time of restored peace after overcoming numerous wars and crises. However, the restless Digimon must still battle to Digi-volve, so they propose to hold their first ever "Digimon Evolution Tournament" to determine who is the strongest of them all. In the vivaciously competitive tournament, up to four players will be able to select from a roster of 12 popular base Digimon characters and play as a total of 32 Digimon forms pulled from every Digimon television series ranging from Digimon Adventure to Digimon Fusion. Players control these digital monsters and battle for supremacy in the main Versus Battle mode that players of all skill levels will be able to pick up and enjoy.
By powering up in battle, players can Digi-volve into a much more powerful form, creating a unique combat atmosphere where players must balance attacking while simultaneously attempting to Digi-volve and gain the upper hand. Utilizing special techniques during matches such as activating a Digimon's "Evolution" power-up along with launching an aggressive attack or defensive strategy will provide colorful and exciting party-arena gameplay so that Digimon fans of all ages can face-off against rivals and become a true Digimon hero!
