For starters, Classic mode will run its course on the 3DS, but it's not the linear pathway fans have fought through in previous Smash games: This take will offer branching pathways littered with varied match types, including 1 vs. 1 fights, CPU-supplemented team battles, multi-opponent groups, all-at-once bouts and "even more." Like previous Classic modes, there's still potential for rivals to be giant-sized. When a round is cleared, victors will be rewarded with trophies, gold or "custom parts" for characters.
In a style similar to Kid Icarus: Uprising's handling of difficulty, Smash players will be faced with a Heatin' Up scale before a game. The higher the intensity a player selects from a 0-to-9 range, the higher the payout will be. Two more sub modes will join the previously announced Target Blast, too: Home-Run Contest and Multi-Man Smash. The full scope of tweaks to either mode have not been detailed, though Home Run will have thicker glass and double speed, as noted by Pure Nintendo.
