Kid-friendly Camp Pokémon app lands on iOS

Proving once again that Nintendo is totally fine with pushing its properties to iOS, as long as those properties are Pokémon or, well, Pokémon, the Pokémon Company International launched the kid-friendly Camp Pokémon activity app today on the App Store.

Kids can play various games, collect Pokémon pins and stickers, and use a built-in camera feature to snap photos with their favorite pocket monsters. The various features are organized as destinations on a 3D island, which young users navigate using the touchscreen. It's all very low-level, and the app is free as you would expect, but it's yet another example of a big-name game company perhaps not fully understanding how the App Store can help them claw their way back to profitability.

Sure, kids are going to love this app for at least a few minutes, but beyond that -- and assuming the company isn't planning on fleshing it out with in-app purchases or more in-depth content -- it's likely that the app will fall into obscurity sooner rather than later. Nintendo's various properties would fit fantastically on the iPad and iPhone, but at this point Pokémon is the only property that has made the leap.
