Apple: iOS 8 now on 56% of all devices

iOS 8 now installed on 56 percent of all devices

That didn't take long. As of Monday, November 10, 2014, just 54 days after the initial release of iOS 8 on September 17, Apple is reporting that 56 percent of all iOS devices are now running the new operating system.

That makes a total of almost 96 percent of all iOS devices running some version of iOS 7 or iOS 8. By comparison, a look at Google's Android Developer dashboard shows that versions of Android 4.4 KitKat (released October 31, 2013) are only running on 30.2% of Android devices, with Android 4.1 - 4.3 Jelly Bean (first released July 10, 2012) still being the most prevalent version of the operating system and running on slightly over 50 percent of all devices. The latest Android version, 5.5 Lollipop (released November 3, 2014), doesn't even show up on the chart.
