The Queue: Doodad Orc Cannon 003

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) is answering all kinds of questions today.

I find it a little odd that there are so many clickable objects in the Horde garrison, yet none of them actually do anything. Some of them are even labeled as if they were meant to do something, as in the case of the level 3 War Mill and its Doodad_Orc_Cannons. With a name like that, I sort of hoped I could launch orcs across the fortress I'd built, circus-style. Because nothing says I'm in charge like the threat of a rousing game of Peon Cannonball.

ScottLeyes asked:

Is it possible to get to Draenor WITHOUT killing anyone/anything? I have a "pacifist" toon as a bank alt, she's never killed anything and gotten to level 63 on holidays, exploration and daily quests. I'd love to eventually get her a Garrison, but not if she has to kill stuff.

You cannot get a garrison established without doing the lead up quests, and those quests involve killing things whether you are Alliance or Horde. While you could have your alt summoned to Draenor, said alt wouldn't really be able to do much of anything except maybe hang out in Warspear or Stormshield. The savage lands of Draenor are no place for pacifists, unfortunately.

wrathofkublakhan asked:

What is the best or most common raiding choice for loot? Are groups going for personal loot or rolling on it? I have a raid team where one guy (a tank, of course) refuses to raid if it is on personal and he can list the reasons why personal in raiding is bad.

It varies from group to group. I can see the benefits of both, honestly -- with personal loot, you don't have to worry about DKP or even distribution or being perceived as being unfair with loot, and it eliminates the possibility of someone being a jerk and rolling on loot that they can't actually use. On the other hand, if you're concerned with progression, maybe you want to make sure that the loot is distributed to the people that can make the most of it -- if you have a choice between giving a weapon to a player that isn't putting in any effort, and one who is making the effort, you can make that call. I honestly don't know which is more popular, but I do know as far as dungeons go, I much prefer the personal loot system -- it's pretty much eliminated loot ninjas, keeps the dungeon running at a brisk pace, and it's just easier all around to deal with.

Kaldricus asked:

Wait. So Garrosh challenges Thrall for leadership of the horde before Wrath, then before Cataclysm when Thrall offers Garrosh leadership of the horde, garrosh is all like hey man, that's probably not a good idea, why would I be leader of the horde?

Garrosh changed a lot during the war against the Lich King. Coming into Wrath, Garrosh was fresh out of Garadar, and didn't really understand the first thing about Azeroth, the new Horde, its people, or the political situation at the time. But he knew what he saw -- that the people in Orgrimmar were struggling to survive with little resources, when Ashenvale was just over the border for the taking, and yet Thrall seemed to be content to try and reach out and attend diplomatic summits and try to be friendly with the Alliance. And Garrosh didn't really get that standpoint. Why would you try and be friends with an enemy that locked you up in internment camps? What's the sense in that? If you have that kind of military power, why not take what you want?

In Northrend, Garrosh didn't learn much about Azeroth in particular, but he did learn that he didn't know a lot about Azeroth, he learned a lot from Saurfang, and also just from leading the Horde military. When Thrall asked him to step up as leader of the Horde, that's when he took a step back -- because leading a faction is far, far different from leading the military. One of these things he was good at, and he knew he was good at that aspect -- the other, he had no idea how to even begin. It wasn't necessarily that Garrosh thought he wouldn't be a good leader so much as Garrosh knew full well that he didn't have the kind of leadership experience or qualities that he thought Thrall was looking for.

And in a way, I think Northrend taught Garrosh that there is a lot more to leadership than he previously imagined. Before Northrend, Garrosh thought he could just step in, order people to do things and everything would be perfect. In Northrend, Garrosh learned that leadership is just not that easy or simple -- and while he could handle it in a military context, handling that in a political context was a different story. That's why the hesitation.

JackYorke asked:

QFTQ: So! (please permit my ignorance), you said above that when Thrall challenged Garrosh at the end of Nagrand, it was a continuation of what happened around the Lich king time. Does this mean that Garrosh in alt Draenor, remembers what happened on Azeroth with the Lich king? I thought it was an alt universe?

It is, but Garrosh is our Garrosh. He traveled from our universe to the alternate one. That's why the Iron Horde decided to connect the Dark Portal to our universe, attack our Blasted Lands, try and destroy our Stormwind -- because it was Garrosh Hellscream influencing all those decisions.

@Cladriah asked via Twitter:

Who do you think the legendary follower for 6.1 will be?

I'm thinking possibly Garona, if only because we've already seen her make an appearance, and we know from our universe that she wasn't too keen on the Shadow Council and was under their control -- specifically, Cho'gall's control. If that is the case in this universe, then certain events that transpire might actually push her in our direction and working more under her own volition. Although it's sort of confusing that Garona is even around to begin with, considering she's a half-draenei that was the product of Gul'dan's experiments, and as far as we know, he never conducted those experiments on this version of Draenor. So it's a little weird to see her around.

Alternatively, there is a certain dragon running around Draenor who we did a lot of favors for in Mists of Pandaria, and maybe he'll be humbled enough by everything we've accomplished so far to do us a few favors this time around.
